Rajoy is pleading for a direct eurozone rescue of his country's banks, to avoid the humiliation attached to requesting a national bailout.

Again, the borrower wants to dictate terms to the lenders. To avoid humiliation. Maybe a little bit of humiliation, for the poliicians, would probably be a valuable lesson.
