A  FCC (Federal Communication Comission)  – agência reguladora de telecom norte-americana – irá definir em sua reunião de fevereiro sobre o que entende por neutralidade da rede, debate que se prolonga por mais de ano no país. O presidente da agência, Tom Wheeler, disse à imprensa norte-americana que iria apresentar seu voto na reunião do dia 26 daquele mês. Há um ano, a justiça norte-americana cancelou as regras adotadas pela FCC em 2010. O presidente Barack Obama defendeu, em novembro, que a agência reclassificasse todo o serviço de banda larga como uma facilidade a ser regulada e que mantivesse a neutralidade da rede .

Right now at a UN meeting in Dubai,  authoritarian regimes are pushing for full governmental control of the Internet in a binding global treaty  -- if they succeed, the internet could become less open, more costly and much slower. We have only 1 day to stop them .

Only Brazil's government agencies submitted more content removal requests with a total of 194 during the final half of last year. But that figure was down from 224 requests in Brazil during the first half of the year.  Brazil's requests covered a more narrow range of content than the US demands. The submissions from Brazil covered 554 different pieces of content while the US requests sought to censor nearly 6,200 items .

Na véspera de um protesto global contra o documento, a Alemanha adiou a assinatura do Acordo Comercial Anticontrafacção (conhecido por ACTA, da sigla inglesa), um documento internacional para combate à pirataria e contrafacção. Um porta-voz do ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros alemão disse à agência AFP que o adiamento da assinatura dará tempo ao país “para levar a cabo mais discussões”. Já a Letónia também decidiu não avançar para a assinatura, dizendo estar à espera que os outros estados-membros (muitos dos quais já assinaram, mas ainda não ratificaram o documento) clarifiquem posições. ACTA - a global treaty - could allow corporations to censor the Internet.  Negotiated in secret by a small number of rich countries and corporate powers, it would set up a shadowy new anti-counterfeiting body to allow private interests to police everything that we do online and impose massive penalties -- even prison sentences -- against people they say have harmed their business.
